Does Your Bathroom Remodel Need a Tub?
Living
Every bathroom has one. The bathtub is an essential bathroom fixture. Right?
Nope. Sometimes, including a bathtub in your bathroom remodel just doesn’t make sense. They take up a lot of square footage, and some people don’t even use their tubs.
If you’re wondering when you can get away without including one in your space, you’ve come to the right place.
5 Questions to Ask Before You Include a Bathtub in Your Bathroom Remodel
Here are good questions to ask yourself before deciding on putting in that bathtub.
1. Do You Have Young Kids?
Anybody who has young kids knows that a bathtub is pretty essential. Toddlers, especially, need help washing up, and a shower is not convenient for bath time.
If you have little kids, you may need a tub in your bathroom remodel simply for practicality’s sake. In this scenario, you could go with a less expensive model to save money for other areas of your bathroom that are more important to you.
2. Do You Have Pets?
Cats don’t need baths, but your dog could require a wash once in a while. If you have no other options, you may need to put in a tub just in case Fido ever rolls in mud – or worse. Again, a basic tub will do the job, so you can put your money toward that steam shower you’ve had your eye on.
3. Do You Love a Good Soak?
Even if you don’t have young children or pets, you still might enjoy the use of a tub every now and then. A long soak is good for melting away stress, after all. Some people find it deeply soothing and relaxing, especially after a long day at work.
If you’re one of the people who appreciate a spa-like experience with a luxurious bath, you may need to plan for one in your remodel. If you love baths over showers, consider a tub with bells-and-whistles, like a beautiful claw-foot model, or one with jets.
4. Are You an Athlete?
For certain kinds of athletes, soaking their muscles can do a world of good for their sore muscles. If you’re regularly found out on the field, on the court, or in the gym, a tub can help you perform at your best.
There are lots of bathtubs on the market that offer a deep basin for soaking. Massaging jets are also a good idea for athletes.
5. Do You Love the Look?
Do you feel like a bathtub puts the “bath” in “bathroom”? Are you a stickler for details, or just worried that you’ll need a tub one day, even if you don’t right now?
If you love the look, go ahead and get your bathroom a bathtub if you have the budget. However, if you’re short on space, or want to splurge on other home fixtures, consider nixing the tub. You won’t be losing out on much if the look is all you’re worried about.
