Turns out, there are a bunch of different ways to make your home more conducive to the hottest months of the year.

These home tips for summer are totally easy – and they’re totally fun!

Get Your Home Ready for Summer with These 4 Home Tips

Get your home ready for summer, and you’ll get more out of the sunniest season.

1. Lighten Up Your Décor

When you come inside from a bright, sunny day, you don’t want your home décor to drag down your mood. As such, brighten things up to match the weather. A few small seasonal decorating changes can make all the difference.

  • Switch out blankets and throws. Put away your heavy wool blankets that you snuggled up with during cooler months and get out lightweight ones, instead. Choose cotton or linen, both of which are breathable and good for a chilly or breezy night.
  • Introduce color. Bring summer’s juiciest, brightest hues indoors and add a bit of color to your space. A new throw pillow or piece of art is the perfect way to add a jolt of happiness. Try shades of coral, yellow, turquoise, or bright green.
  • Use summery scents. Put away your warm and cozy scents and opt for ones that are clean and fresh. Lemon, citrus, and basil are great options, as are tropical ones like coconut and mango.

2. Stock Up on Refreshers

Working and playing in the heat can lead to dehydration pretty fast. Keep your fridge stocked with refreshing beverages that are easy to grab and go, so everybody can quench their thirst. Just make sure you avoid overly sugary drinks – infused or sparkling waters are good options that taste great.

3. Make Sun Protection Simple

The sun may call your name, but its strong rays can equal sunburn and skin damage. Avoid the burn and make it easy to remember to slather on sunscreen by keeping it near your entry. Stash a couple of different types (sport, water-resistant, kids’ formulas, sprays, etc.) in a basket so you can grab one as you’re heading to the park or the beach.

4. Bring Out the Toys

By the same token, make all of your games and toys accessible, too, to get your home ready for summer fun. Keep them in a bin near your main entrance so you can grab balls, gloves, frisbees, sidewalk chalk, jump ropes, and other items for outdoor amusement before you hit your backyard. The same goes for pool toys.
