Kitchen Design Tweaks to Improve Your A.M.
Living
It’s one of the most important rooms in your house. Your kitchen, the undisputed heart of the home, has to work for you in a lot of different ways.
One of those should be making your mornings as relaxed as possible. This will get you out the door with a good attitude, ready to face the world.
There are a couple of tweaks you can make to your kitchen design to help achieve a space that works just as well for your morning activities as it does for dining and cooking in the evening.
Kitchen Ideas to Make Mornings Sing
Interior design in the kitchen can function for more than cooking. Set up specific areas for tasks and rituals you complete daily, and find yourself enjoying more time at home.
Create a Coffee/Tea Station
You need your A.M. brew each morning to wake up, but this daily ritual can be quicker to begin and more relaxing to complete if everything you need is centrally located.
Think about setting aside one area in your kitchen just for making coffee and tea. Put a cart in an empty corner, set aside a cabinet and a bit of counter space, or go all-out and build a coffee bar. Stock up your space with your coffee maker (whether it has all the bells-and-whistles, is a fancy French press, or just your standard 12-cup maker), your favorite cups, coffee beans or grounds, and cream and sugar options.
If you love tea, keep a kettle on hand, a variety of your favorite teas, and any additions you prefer, like honey, sugar, or cream. Display your favorite teacups and tea paraphernalia like strainers and teapots.
A coffee/tea station is also great for guests and can help make your kitchen more efficient – so get brewing!
Try a Breakfast Nook
A breakfast nook in your kitchen is a cozy area where you can have your morning meal, read the news, or just catch up with family before a busy day.
It sounds idyllic, but it’s totally achievable – especially if you carve out an area just for morning gatherings. Plus, your breakfast nook might make you more inclined to actually eat breakfast, which is great for your health.
If your kitchen is small, all you need is a small table and chairs, ideally situated near a window so that morning light can wash over you and wake you up. If you have a larger kitchen, stay near the available windows but get a bigger seating area, maybe even with easy chairs. Store breakfast supplies nearby, like cereal, fresh fruit, a toaster, coffee maker, mugs, bowls, and anything else you need to have your favorite breakfast.
Finally, wake up a little earlier than normal to enjoy it all, and relax over your toast and coffee. What better way to start the day?
