6 Moving Tips and Tricks That You Haven’t Tried Yet
Moving
Countless articles boast packing tips for moving, but many of them are the same old suggestions that everyone gives. Chances are, at least a few of these six moving tips and tricks will be new to you and easy to implement as you prepare for the big day.
Ditch Some Linens
Does your family use all of the towels you own or are there always extras hanging around the laundry room? Does your new place have a linen closet that is big enough to store your extra towels and bedding? Linens can take a lot of space, and most of us have way more than we need. Go through them while packing and see what could be donated or given away.
Use Old Towels as Furniture Pads
Speaking of linens, how many of your towels have seen better days? You probably have a few that are not worth packing and moving, but do not throw them out just yet. Use worn washcloths as cleaning rags around your old and new places, and keep larger bath towels handy to use as furniture pads while moving. You will save money by not having to buy or rent furniture pads, and you will not have to worry about damaging or cleaning your blankets and sheets.
Pack Several Boxes at Once
Working one box at a time can be problematic. Taping together multiple boxes at once is less time-consuming. Plus, packing several boxes at once means you won’t have to close a box that is partially empty or run around the house looking for a small item to fit. If you have a lot of books, then put a small layer of them inside many different boxes. This will help distribute the weight and create a sturdy layer for placing more delicate items.
Slip Knick-Knacks into Socks
Do not waste packing material on small knick-knacks and dishes. Instead, tuck each object into a sock for instant protection. Using socks instead of packing material and tape will also help streamline the process of unpacking and packing.
Avoid Miscellaneous Boxes
Even if a box is full of miscellaneous items, you should have a label or separate record that clearly states what is in each box. Otherwise, you could be looking for a particular item for months before stumbling across it. Start packing early to avoid the temptation to throw random items in the nearest box at the last-minute.
Pack Plates as if They Were Records
To help protect your plates during a move, stack them vertically in a box, on their side and nestled together. With a bit of packing material on the bottom of the box as well as between each plate, they should easily arrive in chip-free condition at your new home.
